RH (Rettungshunde) – Rescue Dog Sport

What is RH/Rettungshunde

Rettungshunde (RH), or “rescue dog,” is a versatile sport program that combines obedience, dexterity, and scent work. It challenges both handler and dog while strengthening their partnership.

Obedience

  • Heeling patterns
  • Long down
  • Sit in motion
  • Directional work
  • Position changes on a raised table

Dexterity

  • Tunnel with chute
  • Rigid and unstable planks
  • Ladder
  • Swinging bridge

Scent Work

  • Area search
  • Tracking
  • Mantrailing

Who Can Participate?

RH is open to many breeds and mixed breeds, large and small. Protection sport dogs often excel, channeling their drive and trainability into new challenges. The program’s versatility allows handlers to choose the path that best suits their dog and training goals.

Why RH?

The requirements are demanding, but the rewards are immense. Training in RH builds new skills, deepens the bond between handler and dog, and offers the chance to grow as a team. With a supportive, enthusiastic training group, the journey is as enjoyable as it is challenging.

Several of us at Redwood Coast Schutzhund Club are active in the RH program.
